I’m working on a new series of Regency romance novels.
Would you like to meet Christian Knightly? He’s a duke, but never expected to inherit the title and wishes he could go back to his former life.
Regency romance: the Eardleys
Halfway through the eighth book in my Regency romance series, The Eardleys of Gostwicke Hall, I began writing a new series.
The Eardleys will return later this year.
Here’s an excerpt from the first novel in the new series.
When Felicity (Flick) meets the barefoot duke
Flick found herself in a long elegant room with immense paintings on three walls. The paintings were interspersed with shelves of books. An Aubusson carpet lay underneath her feet. Long windows along the fourth wall filled the room with light. Someone had tied the drapes back; she saw the square’s greenery through the sheer curtains.
A sudden dull thud behind her made her jump.
“Oh!” Her heart stuttered for a moment.
“Apologies…” A deep voice grumbled. Then an enormous naked man stepped out of an alcove and strolled toward her.
She blinked: not quite naked. He wore a shirt and breeches, but no cravat nor jacket. No stockings nor shoes. She swallowed hard when she saw his bare feet.
“Surprised you, did I?” He chuckled. He carried several books under an arm. He paused right in front of her. “The books fell off the ladder.”
“Ah—” Her mouth opened, but Flick couldn’t speak. He stood so close that she felt the warmth of his body and was engulfed in his scent.
Lemon, she thought, and bergamot, with a hint of cinnamon. She realized she was inhaling him. Her face flooded with heat and again, she froze. Move, she ordered herself. She didn’t get a chance. Abruptly warm hands clasped her upper arms and she found herself pulled closer.
“Look at me…”
She obeyed the gentle order without volition. “Ah…”
Soft lips rested on hers for a moment.
Then he released her and she stumbled.
By the time she regained control of her limbs he’d reached the double doors. He winked at her and was gone.
